Sami Pyne is a first year MFA Theatre Management and Producing student at Columbia University School of the Arts. Originally from Fredericksburg, Virginia, Sami received her BFA in acting from Shenandoah Conservatory in 2017. During her time at ShenCo, Sami quickly shifted her focus from performing to producing and naturally fell into arts leadership roles. Sami designed residencies and worked with visiting artists such as Greg Allen and Stephen Adly Guirgis, worked as the primary researcher and leader for an Arts Incubator initiative, and kickstarted a DIY Theatre scene in Winchester, VA by founding her own theatre company, The Margin Theater. While pursuing her MFA at Columbia, Sami is interested in exploring how to effectively create and develop stronger audiences for nontraditional theatre (experimental, devised, or site specific work), as well as reexamining how theatre-makers envision the audience's experience. Sami is currently a programming assistant at HEREarts.
